8 Trends That’ll See You Through 2016 Summer in Style
Posted on 10 June 2016
Another summer and another set of colours and fashion do’s (and don’ts)! Like children we secretly love rules (yes we do!), even if they just provide us with the ability to buck the trend and push back. I have always 'done style' in my own way (long lovely memories standing out against the crowd), but I don’t believe you need to spend a fortune on your style and it's one of the many reasons I created YourM.O...
We all need ideas to throw around, if not to kick out and this is where the seasonal trends come in. Here’s a fast track guide to skimming through what is hot on the High Street this summer (oooh let it be hot!).
Stay true to stripes
Stripes are in, from pastel tones to bold colours. Don’t be afraid to mix stripes with prints…Hmm, sounds scary to me! Gucci sold out of their Spring bold top. For a great versatile summer stripe and floral print top, check out Lipsy’s Top. A great little number with bold bright summery colours, prints and stripes and a flirty little open back detail. Team with jeans on cooler days or denim shorts when the sun is in bloom.
Get your slip on
We would say your SS16 key purchase is…The Slip Dress. It’s back with a bang and looking cooler, slinkier and sexier than ever. Celine’s scalloped lace, semi-sheer chiffon at Saint Laurent and layered over fine knits at Pucci, there’s plenty to choose from. Our winning number will turn heads, a simple slip but with the xFactor.
Romance is alive!
You heard it here first! Romance is not dead! Ruffles… YES ruffles are in. Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen will be thrilled! Cuff frills and ruffled necklines are all dandy this summer and if you want a dress to the Maxi, check out Miss Selfridge Blush Ruffle Dress for an elegant form. Team with strappy flats for a less formal approach or glam with strappy heels for the ultimate summer party.
Throw-on everyday jacket
Salute the transformative jacket that can dress down a floaty maxi dress or upgrade your jeans weekend look. Khaki tones are a must have this year. The military have nailed khaki outerwear for many years and so can you… Try a softer tone wrap front tie jacket for a great little must have throw-on.
Chunks or Slims? How do you like yours? Sandals my friend…Sandals!
Chunky flats are everywhere along with high block strappy sandals. Have you braved them yet? 2016 is predicted to be ‘The Year’ that everyone will succumb to swapping out their tiny thonged toes to a pair of wide block chunky sandals. We are not so sure, for the more delicate stylista’s that this will flow, so we’re not giving up on those lovely caged Gladiators or delicate sandals. Here’s our current selection…
Small or big… how do you like yours?
I LOVE(d) oversized bags…they always seem like a good idea at the time! But just after an hours shopping and hunting through for my purse (and never finding it!) I tend to stay small. Travelling light seems to work for me and there are plenty of in-season bags I wouldn’t say no to. At present, I’m loving the over-the-shoulder or cross-body small bags. Super light, hold what you need to and keeps your hands free for those all important Instagram updates!
Giving the Cold Shoulder
The cold shoulder, a tricky little number to get right was popular across the catwalks and has widely been taken up across the High Street, from Julien MacDonald, Marks and Spencer to Zara - all offering their take on the look. Even Kate Middleton (who usually sticks to the classics) recently sported a stunning cobalt blue cold-shoulder dress by Roland Mouret.
The Bardot appeal is still here, with off-shoulder one-pieces and added ruffles, BUT very few stylista’s can carry these. We still favour versatile cut-out one-pieces that you can show-case your best assets whilst hiding those sins or a mix and match approach to bikini wear with statement contrast colours and prints to stand out from the crowd. This year, just about anything goes, whether you go for plunging necklines or mesh inserts to the Pamela one-piece ‘thigh-brow’ (yes, it’s back by popular demand), we just advise to take a view as to which suit suits you…
Enjoy your weekend folks and the summer ahead.
